If you have always worn a jacket instead of a gilet with some arm warmers, then we would certainly recommend that you give it a try. Jackets have their place of course, but a gilet is so very versatile, whilst the freedom of riding with your arms unrestricted is very nice indeed. This rider particularly likes climbing mountains whilst wearing a gilet. If the temperature rises, one simple unzip and it is balled up and put in the rear pocket of the jersey. Doing this whilst riding is of course a skill that has to be learnt, but what is life without the occasional totter into a thorny shrub? Once atop the mountain and having surveyed the now conquered gradient, pop the gilet back on, and you can descend at speed without getting cold. Riders of old used to stuff newspaper proffered by spectators up their jerseys, but unless you are really trying to hark back to the days of handle bar moustaches (why??), we don't advise this.
