![]() Chrome started life in Boulder, Colorado over 14 years ago, when a couple of local guys needed some bags, but just couldn't find anything to meet their needs or standards. Frustrated by the lack of supply, they went in search for the toughest materials they could find, broke out the needles, and the rest as they say, is history.
After awhile, the word was out that Chrome was making the best messenger bags around, so what started as a product born out of necessity, developed into a business with the core ethic of making only the best bags, and now apparel possible.
Eventually Chrome upped bags, backpacks and office and moved to San Francisco, a city with a burgeoning urban cycling scene. As business grew, their in demand Chrome Bags were joined by biycle apparel, gear and cycling shoes. Chrome products began to appear up from Brooklyn to Berlin to Tokyo.
What matters today is what mattered in the garage – building products that work, and standing behind everything they make. If you have bought this product, why not write a review and help other riders to make an informed choice. Just click here.

Runs large

Look good, comfortable but stiff sole. I would recommend these for city/social riding but not for anything longer than say 10km or so, at which point the weight and heel lift, mentioned already by others, would become an issue.

These are great. Bit more stealthy than my previous Shimanos which lasted me 7 years, but very clearly stated that they were bikes shoes, whereas these are a nice compromise. I bought a pair from a shop in town, tried them on and promptly threw away the box. How silly. I then ordered a pair half a size smaller from always riding on Friday at around 13:00 and they were in Glasgow the following day. The shoes are great but what is even better is the service from always riding. Excellent.
by Jay Chau from Hong Kong on 06/04/2012
Quality wise it's good and well built
It's comfortable and stylish
My only comment is it's a bit heavy
Otherwise no complaint really

Casual looking shoes for the urban cyclist. Good quality and finishing but not the best fitting shoe. First of all, these run larger than expected and therefore I recommend to size down. Secondly, my heels tend to slip in these unless I tighten the laces uncomfortably tight. However, these shoes are very durable and provide good protection against the weather elements.
True to size
by Donald Haston from United Kingdom on 04/03/2012
So glad I read the reviews, half size smaller is perfect, so thanks everyone! I selected true to size but only using the half a size smaller guide.
Really like these shoes, they fill a gap between proper road SPD shoes and touring boots. I wear them for my work commute, stiff enough for the 10km cycle and easy enough to walk in at the other side.
Bit of heel slip when walking but thats not a big issue really.
Probably going to buy another couple of pairs to keep aside for when these wear out but then look as thought they will last a while, would be happy to get a year out of them.
Tends to be small
by Benjamin Johnson from United Kingdom on 20/02/2012
Finally a pair of cycling shoes that don't make you look like Neil Armstrong. If you are looking for a SPD compatible shoe that as soon as you get off the bike no one is the wiser, then these are for you. Even people in my office are impressed.
True to size
by KENICHI YAMAZAKI from Japan on 21/01/2012
After purchasing Kursk SPD
A ride of every time is fun
I always make a detour
The appearance is good, too
It is most suitable for commuting street riding
by David Kimber from United Kingdom on 05/01/2012
Take the advice of previous posters and buy a size smaller than you normally would. Great shoes; look a bit look Converse All Stars but much harder wearing.
True to size
by Antero Lepp from Finland on 04/01/2012
These shoes work just as they should - they are comfortable and stiff enough (and look good). I've been using my pair about 8 months now, and I have no real complaints. Maybe the laces could be shorter.
by Liam Harrington from United Kingdom on 06/12/2011
The casual look of these make them good for going out in. I've had more comfortable SPD shoes but I don't regret getting these at all.
by Paul Groombridge from United Kingdom on 30/11/2011
Stumbled across this site looking for a casual style riding shoe. Found the Chrome Kursk Pro and they looked just up my street. I've not ridden them yet but on trying them on found the fit to be spot on, really comfy and snug. I'm usually an 11 so ordered the 46 and they are perfect. Can't wait to buy new cleats and try them out!
by Mikko B from Finland on 18/11/2011
I'm using my Chrome Kursks with Crank Brothers Eggbeaters on a fixed gear track bike, riding mostly in the city. Great match, like bread
by John Hayter from United Kingdom on 07/11/2011
Spds that don't look like something from outer space, GREAT!
love ther little details like lace garage and steel aglets, it realy all comes together for a great shoe.
Only downside is that they realy slacken off in rain and become quite loose no matter how tight yah had em!
by Alejandro Martin Blanco from Spain on 20/10/2011
Shoes are better than expected from other reviews and photos. Very well constructed, indestructible cordura and lightly padded inside for extra comfort but without a bulky look.
I followed other customers recommendations about sizing and got the right ones. Wearing regularly a 9,5 in Vans shoes and 9 in all stars, I ordered a 8,5 which is a 42 and fit perfect, any way you do not want to wear loose cycling shoes.
Ankle lift a bit while walking and Shimano cleats hit the ground but is not a problem while riding. I use the shoes with a fixed gear bike, city riding, skidding, clip and unclip pedals with no problem. I highly recommend this shoes for fixed gear riding, best control of your bike, much more reactive and definitively better than straps.
Great purchase.

If your wondering if these will do what you want them to..... they will.
these have become something I pretty much live in. Work all day on fridays, the pub, clubs, the cafe, theyre pretty much wear-able as normal shoes.
There is still a scrape noise from the cleat, and the heel counter could be a bit tougher. my only complaints.
by Vesa-Matti M from Finland on 19/09/2011
They look good and perform well when cycling. I had to order 41's (8) when I usually wear 42 or 42,5 (9).
The material and the stiff sole makes the shoes quite uncomfortable to wear when walking longer distances. Hopefully they will soften a little with time.
by Vesa Launiainen from Finland on 24/05/2011
The sizing, as mentioned, is on the large side, had to order a second smaller pair. When the size is right cyclingwise they function well, they don't flex a lot, they look great and are warm. Unfortunately the Cordura fabric also breaths minimally so expect moist feet after a long night out wearing these.
The cleats could be recessed more as now on hard surfaces they still make a lot of noise and walking steps up and down is a bit slippery and clattery. Not really great for walking, but the sleeper look compensates somewhat in general use. All in all, money quite well spent.
by guvnor from United Kingdom on 19/05/2011
These shoes are quality from the off!! Well constructed materials which appear to be able to withstand everyday abuse come rain or shine - all year round. As for sizing i ordered uk10 which i would normally wear and they are a perfect fit. May be considered a little expensive? however on inspection are worth every penny as far as i`m concerned. They are also very stiff more like a proper cycling shoe but with a great urban feel. Noted that the cleat is not fully recessed when fitted (spd) though this is not a problem for walking. All in all a good product.
by virgile vebrel from France on 27/04/2011
As said above, these shoes are real cycling stuff. The size is real, the sole is stiff. overall, the whole quality is nothing compared to regular and cheap sneakers, everything looks rock solid. well, talking about walking, I sometimes spend a complete working day with these exotic shoes before a polo session, and it's difficult to forget them, heavy and rigid as a docmartens ! anyway, i manage the whole day.
by sebastian bojek from Japan on 13/04/2011
Best urban cycling shoes on the market! Very strong! Even when i walk around, those shoes are still Very comfortable!
Just the buy them a size smaller. I got them in 9 but its actually 10.
Good job chrome!
by Oscar Dristig from Finland on 31/03/2011
A great pair of shoes for sure. For a start the sizing is spot on. The fit is true to size as claimed. The soles are very rigid when bearing in mind that it is a "casual" cycling shoe. It's not comparable to a real road or mtb shoe but it is definitely stiff enough. The rigid soles do add a fair bit of weight to the shoes but the added weight is not too overwhelming. The shoes feel and look durable and the outer cordura fabric is reminiscent of the fabric used in chromes messenger bags. The lace garage and reflective strip are both nice details. When used off the bike the cleats (at least Shimano spd) do touch the ground a bit but it only causes problems when walking on slippery surfaces such as stone or marble floors.

Fantastic shoes,
I was worried that these would be closer to Converse shoes than cycling shoes and could be all style and no substance for serious cycling, no need to worry at all though.
The soles are as rigid as can be all over and really transfer power well. The toe and heel are also fairly rigid and do a great job of holding your foot in place. The tongue and sole are nicely padded and they make for very confortable everyday shoes (aided by a subtly curved sole that keeps you walking smoothly despite their stiffness.)
My first ride was with them on metal cage pedals, the sole provides a great amount of grip and I felt a massive improvement over regular trainers I had been using up til now. Today my SPD pedals arrived and the first ride clipped in was yet another massive improvement, so much better than I expected.
The shoes are definitely well made and feel very durable, the canvas is thicker, stronger and more waterproof than classic Converse and the "lace garage" and reflective patches are a nice touch.
Brilliant. Got an in depth product question, or want to ask something else related to this product? Whatever your question, simple post it here, and we'll answer you faster than a speeding bullet.
Hi,
Do you know if Chrome are going to make any Kursk Pro in smaller sizes e.g. 38/39? I am sure I not the only keen but smaller footed cyclist. Cheers
posted by Li on 2nd March 2011
Thanks for the question - Chrome certainly do make smaller sizes, and you can now order them from the product page here; as we just added sizes 38 and 39 to the drop down list selections. Apologies for not having them listed earlier:)
posted by Jose Casero on 7th March 2011
Hi, sizes are those in EU men? So is US 10.5 equal to EU men 44.5?
Best regards, Axel
posted by Axel on 9th March 2011
Thanks for the question - Yes, the sizes we list are EU sizes, just because cyclists are more likely to know cycling shoe sizes in this standard. For your size, you are totally right, a US 10.5 is an EU 44.5.
Hi. Bought a pair of DZR shoes off you a short time ago in size Eu45.
How do these compare in the sizing? Chrome\'s website suggests going a size smaller. What\'s your advice on ordering these?
Many thanks.

posted by Martin on 5th May 2011
Thanks for the question! We have compared the DZR Ovis directly with the Chrome Kursk SPD, and we think a 44.5 in the Chrome would be a comparable size to the DZR 45.
hey thinking of getting these shoes but will they withstand both long distances and road and mtb rides ?
posted by melissa on 14th May 2012
Thanks for the question - yes to both, as long as your pedals are SPD, they will be compatible with the shoes. For long distances you should also be fine, but if you're doing bigger miles than 60-80 a day and don't need to stop and start so much / walk distances away from the bike (where the versatility of the Kursk shines through), then perhaps a pure mtb or road shoe would be best.
