The Craft Superlight Base Layer has been tested, developed and will be used by the Craft sponsored riders of Team Radioshack Nissan Trek at the Tour de France, and is designed to provide ultimate breathability, moisture transfer and cooling in hot conditions, making it the perfect first layer for Spring/Summer rides.
To be considered as part of the Team Radioshack Nissan Trek kit for the Tour de France, the Superlight had to be exceptional, yet Craft had no need to be concerned, as the Superlight base layer has proved its worth countless times, from sweltering valley to searing mountain top finish, keeping the Radioshack riders cooler and more comfortable than their rivals. With direct feedback from Andy Schleck, Fabian Cancellara and Jens Voight amongst others, the Craft Superlight base layer is now ready for you to wear, with their seal of approval.

![]() For 2012, Craft is the apparel sponsor for Team Radioshack Nissan Trek, an evolution of 2011's Leopard Trek team that was also sponsored by the Swedish brand. Featuring amongst other internationally acclaimed cyclists, Andy and Frank Schleck, Fabian Cancellara and Jens Voigt, the Radioshack Nissan Trek team is powered by Craft clothing and Craft base layers, with each rider part of an apparel development cycle that means that when you ride Craft, you are riding in a collection developed by some of the word's best cyclists. The Craft Base Layer Collection Craft Base Layers are some of the world's most advanced, researched and tested cycling, skiing and running products. Split into into five collections, the Craft Base Layer series comprises of Cool, Zero, Zero Extreme, Zero Windstopper and Warm. With these five categories, Craft offer a full range of underwear with unique performance characteristics for cycling in all climates and weather conditions. Take a look at the Craft Base Layer Temperature Guide Chart below to see which base layer is best for you: ![]() ![]() Craft uses a very open weave fabric for its Superlight vest, the 'hexa' filaments providing clear passage for air and moisture transfer without looking too much like a string vest. There's plenty of stretch to stay in contact with your skin, for maximum efficiency while maintaining freedom of movement. it offers superior ventilation to any others i've tested and the wicking is excellent too. I was shocked to find out it only costs £20; you'd be tempted to buy more than one. Quite generous for size, but that's no reason to mark it down; it's a superb base layer. SB Verdict: 10/10 A string vest for cycling? Surely not?! Well actually it’s not far off, but that shouldn’t be held against it - particularly when it’s primary purpose is to be worn under a jersey where it’s string vest appearance is less obvious. Available for a bargainous eighteen quid from AlwaysRiding.co.uk, this thin and super-lightweight base layer is designed to keep you cooler despite actually wearing more. I won’t profess to know how this works, but trust me when I say it really does. Fit is snug but then that’s the intention - something that wicks sweat away this efficiently needs to sit close to the body to actually make this process work. An added bonus of this figure hugging approach being that any ‘excess baggage’ is held in place a little better, thus enhancing your physique under a tighter jersey... so I’m told - Bike Tart’s body is obviously a temple... *ahem* moving on... There’s not really a great deal else to say about this sleeveless number to be honest! It comes in two colour choices (black or white) and is sized like ‘non-bike’ clothes - by this I mean I wear a M t-shirt but often need an L jersey for example. Craft seem to be much closer to reality and I wear an M in their kit too. An added bonus that Craft probably haven’t thought of is that it actually works well when used for indoor training. Jump on the rollers or your turbo with this on your top half and I’ll bet you feel much more comfortable than in a jersey (or topless, depending on how you like to handle your ‘behind closed doors’ riding!), as well as not dripping sweat everywhere quite so profusely. As the temperature begins to head south I’m probably just at the wrong end of the UK ‘summer’ for this review to be entirely worthwhile. That said, should you be off to warmer climes for a holiday or some winter training, my timing could not be better. Would I recommend it? Well, I’ve got three. And I wear one on every ride without fail. I guess that’s a yes then... visit Brain Fart Central for more reviews and news from the cycling world » 40 reviews for Craft Cool Mesh Superlight Sleeveless Base Layer

The ideal warm weather base layer
Size comment: "True to size"
I was sceptical about these, but now I'm a total convert. It's nice to have something thin between you and the jersey that's really light and wicks moisture away from the skin. Really helps to keep me comfortable and maintain temperature control.

Very good

Extremely lightweight and breathable. I have tried it out in extreme heat and it worked perfectly. It is so light I even forgot I had it on. I had to by another one just in case Craft stops producing it. Tip: VERY delicate so try to keep it away from velcros and stuff. Highly recommended.

from United Kingdom on 18/05/2011 Usual high quality Craft design and build. Really nice base layer which keeps me cool on warmer days and acts as a very light extra layer on early morning starts. Wicks moisture away very well and seems to help regulate temperature over a longer ride.
My only issue was with sizing. My other Craft base layers (eg. Long sleeve Zero Extreme WS) are size Large and are a nice close fit, maybe even a little too close under the armpits, so I thought a Large size in this would be perfect (If it helps, I'm 6ft tall, 43 inch chest). When it arrived, it was very baggy, almost a T-shirt fit. Exchanged it for a Medium which is perfect for me - close fitting, cut well clear of the armpit, stretchy, very comfortable, and plenty long enough. Happy bunny.
So, really nice super-light base layer I'd happily recommend, but watch the sizing.
Thanks to Always Riding for a simple and VERY fast exchange and great communication. A genuine pleasure! :)

Fantastic Base Layer
Size comment: "True to size"
I really like this base layer, and can strongly recommend it. It has a very nice feel against the skin; works well in both hot and cold conditions; and I will be buying more of these for sure.

Great summer layer
This is a strange piece - hold it up to the light and it looks like it's all holes, but it seems to keep the wind out and do everything a base layer should better than any other one I've ever had! Plus the great big Craft logo across the front of mine is perfect for making my wife jealous - she wishes she had one too.
Highly recommended.

Sexy string vest

The strange thing is it does seem to work, it keeps you cooler in hot conditions and dryer when it rains & everyone knows that the ladies love a string vest.......

This is the best baselayer I own. It's soft, comfortable, and wicks well. There has been many chances this year to try it out on hot weather, but on the odd occasion the mercury did rise, it worked well. I take a medium for most European cycling clothing, but I got the small in this and it fits perfectly. It's also a good price.

Hello,
Can you guide me please on the best size to purchase. I have a Opsal and Solo t-shirts in small and Twin Six in medium
Many thanks
asked by Tim on 24th May 2011
Thanks for the message - I would advise going for a small if you are a T6 t-shirt medium, as the fit this year is a little more roomy than other years, and you do need the base layer to be nice and fitted.

Hi.
Can you please guide me on the best size to purchase . I wear a size m Nike pro base layer. What size should I be getting here? Thanks.
asked by Darryl on 5th July 2012
Thanks for the question! Ideally you need the smallest size you can get away with in this baselayer, so the best thing to do is to use the Craft size chart (just near the add to bag button) as we don't unfortunately have experience with the Nike item you mention. When using our size chart, just make sure to measure your chest and then if you are between sizes, make sure to take the smallest size.

craft sizingCraft's sizing is very Swedish, which means the size sets are very realistic, and not at all like the very small Italian brands. With Craft, a large is indeed a large. The only exception is the Elite range, which is a pure race fit, and which depending on your cycling style, one you may wish to size up for.
*For an accurate glove size, please measure around your palm, placing it flat and making sure to exclude the thumb (don't chop it off), then compare your measurement to the chart above. If it's a close call, go one size up or down depending on the result.
