DZR GMT-8 Shoe

The DZR GMT-8 cycling shoe is a simple, slim-profile sneaker. You'll enjoy the comfortable fit, flexible grip and feel of these timeless shoes Like the entire range, the DZR Shoes combine an SPD compatible midsole with a vulcanised rubber outsole. Loss of power transfer to the pedals is one of the main reasons you probably already wear a traditional cycling shoe to commute over a more urban orientated piece that you can wear off the bike, so to combat this problem, DZR moved the sole's flex point further back towards the rear. The net result is a natural walking gait as the shoe can move with the foot. But on the bike, more power is delivered to the pedals throughout the pedal stroke. Finished with a 600 luminosity reflective rear badge, the DZR GMT-8 Shoe is an ideal city riding piece for both on and off the bike adventures, for the rider that only wants to wear one shoe throughout the day.

DZR was born out of the passion for riding, period. The US brand's path stems from a lifetime riding every discipline from dirt to concrete and terrain all over the globe. Their life is the bicycle, a place where they feel at home, and it is with this nomad lifestyle and dedication to product design and development that led this young company to create DZR Shoes for urban cyclists everywhere. The concept of DZR shoes was born in the Swiss Alps and it is the answer to a simple need - that of balance in life both on and off the bike. Once opened, print it out, then follow the simple instructions to create your sizing chart: DZR Shoes Size Chart ![]() I kind of wanted to keep these under wraps, they are that cool. DZR Shoes you can chill in, ride in and go to the bar in and not feel like a ponce. Lovely soft comfortable leather with a vulcanized waffle like sole. Oh and don't forget this fashion and functional piece has a nice deeply recessed hole for your SPD cleats. As well as collaborating with Mission Workshop on their new urban shoe, DZR were at Interbike showing their new range of urban cycling shoes. Founded by a couple of experienced apparel designers, DZR shoes combine an SPD compatible midsole with a vulcanized natural rubber outsole and handsome uppers to make for some very appealing urban cycling shoes. ![]() Bike commuters face a dilemma every morning: Wear stylish-yet-inefficient street shoes, or suffer in stiff, ugly bike shoes all day. The third option, lugging an extra pair to work so you can have both power and panache, is a less-than-attractive compromise. Shoe startup DZR has changed that equation by crafting some great-looking, comfy kicks that conceal SPD-compatible cleats. The versatility allows you to make nice with your clipless pedals without straining your feet or your fashion sense. Clipless pedals let riders lock their feet to a bike for a more powerful and efficient pedal stroke. Clipless pedals are safer and far more productive than toe cages. But they also require small cleats on the bottom of the shoe in order to clip on to the pedal. In addition, bike shoes have stiff soles for efficient power transfer. For obvious reasons, because of the stiffness of the shoe and the bottom cleat, bike shoes are a drag to walk around in all day. DZR’s new line of shoes is an attempt to reconcile the bike shoe with the street. It’s been done before, but rarely has it worked so well. A hollowed-out section on the bottom of the shoe conceals an SPD cleat (not included). Meanwhile a nylon shank in the sole provides more stiffness than your average sneaker, while remaining flexible enough to walk comfortably. We even ran around in them a bit without noticing the rigidity — although we wouldn’t exactly want to jog in these things. They were fantastic on the bike, clipping in and out easily, with a noticeable stiffness on the up and down pedal strokes. Yet they’re also extremely comfortable to wear and damn good-looking. The Strasse model we tested has a skate shoe cut, with herringbone tweed uppers and black accents. The logo on the heel doubles as a reflector when light hits it, which is great for night riding. Don’t want to walk around in your cleats? Swap them out with the screw-in rubber covers shaped to fit the exposed section in the sole. Unless you revealed the piece of metal embedded deep in the sole, no one would know these are bike shoes. Yet, like all compromises, they’re not perfect. In order to remove the rubber plug in the bottom of the shoe to install the cleat, you have to slice it out with a knife. It was easy enough to do, but also seemed like a good way to lose a finger. We think the shoe ought to come with that bottom section already removed. Also, the cleats tend to touch the ground in a noticeable way on concrete and (worse) hardwood. While you can remove them and replace them with the rubber covers, we expect most people would consider it too much of a pain to do every day. Overall, however, these innovative and fashionable kicks make a great combination that will look just as good on the bike or at the bar. Just don’t get trashed and try to ride home, OK? WIRED: Concealed cleats make shoe easy on the eye and the ride. Nylon shanks provide more stiffness than Chucks, without going full-on Lance. Rear reflector is discreet during day, lights up like a Daft Punk show in car headlights. Men’s and women’s shoes available. TIRED: You want us to slice the bottom with a knife? The only way we want to cut rubber soles involves a Beatles album and a turntable. http://www.wired.com/reviews/2011/01/undercover-kicks-let-you-pedal-or-hoof-it-in-high-style/ If you have bought this product, why not write a review and help other riders to make an informed choice. 4 reviews for DZR GMT-8 Shoe
Tends to be small

Very nice shoes, they feel great on and off the bike. I'm using them with Time ATAC without any problems. But be careful with the sizing! I normally wear 45 but after reading some reviews I ordered one size smaller which is the right size for me.

Great looking shoes though despite claims that they suit skinny feet. Not my skinny feet. Probably best to order at least one size larger

Excellent for what they are! A casual cycling shoe. Don't buy them expecting to post records down the 'drome, but I use them for a 10m commute and they are perfect in the dry. Also allows me to remain too cool for school when nipping down the park to drink red stripe. I use Time Atacs and get no rubbing of the cleats on the floor. Not the stiffest of soles, but means you can wear them off as much as on the bike. Ideal casual set-up, highly recommended.

Great shoes, really comfortable. Perfect for casual riders or people looking to head down to the pub for a drink. I don't know about trying to get home after a sneaky few, being strapped in may make riding home wasted tricky. But that is a different story all together.
Note; you need a Stanley knife to cut out the sole of the shoes and insert the SPD inners. (Quite simple). A little chunkier than they appear in photo's but great overall execution.
Definitely recommend to casual riders.

Hi,
How is the fitting on these shoes are they wide/narrow a big 44 or small 44.
I also notice that 44 appears out of stock do you know when you will be getting resupplied?
Many thanks
Ian

Thanks for the question - the GMT is a pretty similar to a Converse All Star style fit, so not overly wide or thin. Nothing like sitting on the fence! Seriously though, a couple of customers mentioned they were thinner than expected, but that could be because they thought the shoe would be wider, whereas, whilst it is not a slim fitting road style cycling shoe, it is not overly bulky either.
We will be restocking in the next few days, so feel free to pre order (just ignore the stock warning on checkout), and we can reserve a pair for you.
