DZR was born out of the passion for riding, period. The US brand's path stems from a lifetime riding every discipline from dirt to concrete and terrain all over the globe. Their life is the bicycle, a place where they feel at home, and it is with this nomad lifestyle and dedication to product design and development that led this young company to create DZR Shoes for urban cyclists everywhere. The concept of DZR shoes was born in the Swiss Alps and it is the answer to a simple need - that of balance in life both on and off the bike. DZR Shoe Sizing - please click the link below to open / save a pdf to your computer. Once opened, print it out, then follow the simple instructions to create your sizing chart: DZR Shoes Size Chart ![]() I kind of wanted to keep these under wraps, they are that cool. DZR Shoes you can chill in, ride in and go to the bar in and not feel like a ponce. Lovely soft comfortable leather with a vulcanized waffle like sole. Oh and don't forget this fashion and functional piece has a nice deeply recessed hole for your SPD cleats. As well as collaborating with Mission Workshop on their new urban shoe, DZR were at Interbike showing their new range of urban cycling shoes. Founded by a couple of experienced apparel designers, DZR shoes combine an SPD compatible midsole with a vulcanized natural rubber outsole and handsome uppers to make for some very appealing urban cycling shoes. ![]() Bike commuters face a dilemma every morning: Wear stylish-yet-inefficient street shoes, or suffer in stiff, ugly bike shoes all day. The third option, lugging an extra pair to work so you can have both power and panache, is a less-than-attractive compromise. Shoe startup DZR has changed that equation by crafting some great-looking, comfy kicks that conceal SPD-compatible cleats. The versatility allows you to make nice with your clipless pedals without straining your feet or your fashion sense. Clipless pedals let riders lock their feet to a bike for a more powerful and efficient pedal stroke. Clipless pedals are safer and far more productive than toe cages. But they also require small cleats on the bottom of the shoe in order to clip on to the pedal. In addition, bike shoes have stiff soles for efficient power transfer. For obvious reasons, because of the stiffness of the shoe and the bottom cleat, bike shoes are a drag to walk around in all day. DZR’s new line of shoes is an attempt to reconcile the bike shoe with the street. It’s been done before, but rarely has it worked so well. A hollowed-out section on the bottom of the shoe conceals an SPD cleat (not included). Meanwhile a nylon shank in the sole provides more stiffness than your average sneaker, while remaining flexible enough to walk comfortably. We even ran around in them a bit without noticing the rigidity — although we wouldn’t exactly want to jog in these things. They were fantastic on the bike, clipping in and out easily, with a noticeable stiffness on the up and down pedal strokes. Yet they’re also extremely comfortable to wear and damn good-looking. The Strasse model we tested has a skate shoe cut, with herringbone tweed uppers and black accents. The logo on the heel doubles as a reflector when light hits it, which is great for night riding. Don’t want to walk around in your cleats? Swap them out with the screw-in rubber covers shaped to fit the exposed section in the sole. Unless you revealed the piece of metal embedded deep in the sole, no one would know these are bike shoes. Yet, like all compromises, they’re not perfect. In order to remove the rubber plug in the bottom of the shoe to install the cleat, you have to slice it out with a knife. It was easy enough to do, but also seemed like a good way to lose a finger. We think the shoe ought to come with that bottom section already removed. Also, the cleats tend to touch the ground in a noticeable way on concrete and (worse) hardwood. While you can remove them and replace them with the rubber covers, we expect most people would consider it too much of a pain to do every day. Overall, however, these innovative and fashionable kicks make a great combination that will look just as good on the bike or at the bar. Just don’t get trashed and try to ride home, OK? WIRED: Concealed cleats make shoe easy on the eye and the ride. Nylon shanks provide more stiffness than Chucks, without going full-on Lance. Rear reflector is discreet during day, lights up like a Daft Punk show in car headlights. Men’s and women’s shoes available. TIRED: You want us to slice the bottom with a knife? The only way we want to cut rubber soles involves a Beatles album and a turntable. http://www.wired.com/reviews/2011/01/undercover-kicks-let-you-pedal-or-hoof-it-in-high-style/ If you have bought this product, why not write a review and help other riders to make an informed choice. This was my first pair of SPD shoes. I wanted something I call walk around in without looking stupid. They're great shoes, they look fantastic and I got the hang of the clips really quickly- still yet to fall off! The boots seem well made though I don't think this type of shoe would stand up to heavy amounts of walking. Once I got over the fear of cutting away a section of the sole, it was actually quite simple to do. One thing I have noticed is that the metal clip is only slightly recessed below the surface of the sole so sometimes you hear the metal scraping on the ground and I have put one small scratch on our wooden floor so don't wear them round the house!
A word or two about Always Riding; this was the first order I'd made from them and it arrived in no time at all. All in all, highly recommended.

okay I've had the DZR's for a couple of weeks, and with the current nice weather have been riding round in them alot and am now using them as my commute shoes, as I can walk about in them at work, without looking like a cyclist... Though I do from the rolled up jeans down, look like an extra from west side story..
The insole they come with is a bit thin, and when you use it, you can feel the metal plate they've inserted into the bottom of the shoe to screw the cleat in and stiffen the sole, so I've swapped that out for a mutilated air max inner, which is quite thick and also means the half size that the shoe is out, doesn't bother me at all now. Others have noted that the DZR's are a bit snug if you order your normal shoe size, then stretch to fit once you've ridden them for a little while.
On the bike they are great, had a couple of nervous unclipping moments as the lip of the sole that surrounds the cleat, caught on the pedal, but you get used to it, work around it and eventually don't notice it at all..
Walking is fine, on the weekend walked around borough market, then down from london bridge to westminster bridge along the south bank, edges of my feet started to ache towards the end, and I was dying to get back on the bike, but all was fine.
Really happy with them, I did need to buy a stanley knife to cut out the rubber cover that covers the cleat holes, as it was too thick to be done with a scalpel, but I needed one anyways...
Am going to be buying the concubines next, as much as I like the high top's after going from velcro and ratchets on sidi's laces are a bit of a faff. Would wholeheartedly recommend these for anyone who needs to ride and walk about a bit in town, and as said previously, doesn't want to look to overtly like a cyclist..

I usually wear 42 or 42.5 shoes, so I ordered the 41 (one size less, as advised) and they fit me well. These are my first pair of SPD shoes, so I can't compare, but they're nice, comfortable and do the job pretty well.

I was after some Vans type shoes for short commuting/loafing around/having a spin round with the kids. Love my Vans, but theyre so flexy for riding in. Saw these and they seemed to fit the bill. After some umming and ahhing i ordered some.
Emailed the guys at Always Riding for some sizing guidance as shoe buying over the internet is always a bit risky.
Anyway, the email was answered in minutes, and the order was placed. On this, i'm a Euro 45 in most leisure and bike shoes. The exceptions for me are i size up to 46 in Shimano and Sidi. I was advised to order 45. These are perfect. Hope that helps others a little.
The shoes arrived next day. Really nice quality, really strong smell of quality, supple leather uppers. Look really nice on. Forefoot is nicely stiff (not overly), and rear seems to have more flex on walking. The SPD slot needs cutting out, which is perfect for me, as my intention is to use them with flatties or toe clips. There are some bolt on covers included for those who remove the SPD cover and later want to use them for flatties (i guess).
Cant't coment on any sort of longevity, but they seem really nicely made, so hope that's an indication of long term build quality.
In a nutshell very pleased.
Always Riding, yet again, providing a really good service all round. Others should take note. Got an in depth product question, or want to ask something else related to this product? Whatever your question, simple post it here, and we'll answer you faster than a speeding bullet.
Hi, I usually wear an 8.5 to 9. I read a review that these come up big. what would you recommend ordering??
thanks

Thanks for the question - If you usually wear an 8.5 / 9 in normal 'off the bike shoes', then you could try a 43 size, as the DZR Shoes size more like trainers, than cycling shoes.
I like the look of these shoes but often have problems with shoes because of my wide foot with a high instep.
With laceups which are soft and give a bit when worn I usually buy a size 42(8). I sometimes have to buy a size 43 but this means a compromise of having a bit more space in the toe than I would normally like. Having too much space in the toe may not be acceptable with cycling shoes.
Can you offer any advice.

Thanks for the question - With the DZR Ovis, I would recommend to go with your normal length, in this case a 42, because the larger size as you mentioned, will leave you with a little too much length and perhaps result in some heel slippage.
For your high instep and wide feet, you will have some control over the fit with the laces and inherent flex of the leather construction, so whilst we think you will be pretty comfortable, we can't say for sure if they will be ideal for you. product tags for this itemClick on a tag to see the listed items, or check the boxes next to the tag if you consider them relevant.
