Apparel by Etxeondo - Team Blanco win the Tour Down Under
Unexpected, yet a major early season boost for the team formerly known as Rabobank, Tom-Jelte Slagter of Team Blanco won the 15th edition of the Tour Down Under on Sunday, taking the ochre jersey and chalking up his first overall win at the tender professional age of 23.
Wearing race apparel by Etxeondo, Tom, the first Dutch winner of the Tour Down Under, commented: "It brings some pressure also for me. It's the first race of the year. I win it directly, it's still a long season and I want to keep this level but the start couldn't be better, for the team and for me."
After losing long-time title sponsor Rabobank at the end of 2012, the win re-establishes a team that was all but written off in the pre-season build up However, with re-organisation come new opportunities, and whilst the season does not begin and end in January, Team Blanco can seemingly look forward to greater success as the year develops.
Giant & Etxeondo
With Giant stepping up as the title sponsor for 2013, all of the team apparel, including kits for racing & training is supplied by Etxeondo as principal apparel partner. Made in Spain, and with a history of clothing such riders as Delgado, Kelly, Indurain, Ullrich, Vinokourov, and Contador, the Basque brand is more than ready for the challenge of the Pro Tour, with Team Blanco riders already commenting on the outstanding comfort and fit of the Etxeondo clothing.
Stan Mavis, Global Executive Director Rider Gear for Giant said: “We are excited about the partnership with Etxeondo. We are calling the collaboration, ‘Giant, Powered by Etxeondo’. There are very few apparel brands in the world which can follow the same standard for quality and performance that Etxeondo has established and maintained for so many years. The riders have responded very well to the new products; we have already seen that the collaboration is making the riders excited about Giant and their Etxeondo crafted products, each and every training and race day.”
