Castelli Kit Guide for Summer Sportives

From local charity rides to multi stage, closed road continental adventures, riders around the country are furiously scribbling in calender and diaries, penciling in events and training rides aplenty. Sportives can be tough though, new distances, new roads and new challenges. Inspired by our Spring Summer Castelli drop, we've put together a few tips to help with your successful summer of riding.

100 Miles

We’re talking base layers, gloves and socks. Often neglected, these three items can be the difference between a ride to remember and a ride filled with sore hands, numb feet and some serious overheating

100 Miles

If you're lining up for 100 miles you’ve probably got quite a few rides under your belt already. However, making that jump from 100k to 100 miles can require some clever additions to your kit. An earlier than usual start may require arm or knee warmers to keep the chill off - Castelli’s Nanoflex are the go to option giving you the flexibility needed for changeable conditions.

Castelli Performance Jerseys

Aiming for a personal best? It's worth looking at Castelli’s more performance orientated options such as the Aero Race 5.0 with enhanced aerodynamics or the Climber’s Jersey, perfect for hot, hilly rides. These little differences can make a real difference once over the magical 100 mile mark.

100 Kilometers

Comfort is key over 100k and the Velocissimo Due Bibshort is ideal. The Velocissimo offers a more comprehensive package than many entry level options and will take you through all your training plus the ride itself - a good bib is really worth it, we’ve all struggled on long rides in ill fitting or poorly padded shorts.

Wet Weather

If rain is forecast there is no backing out now - look to Castelli’s Gabba range, a pro level option designed for inclement weather. Even pro teams not sponsored by Castelli scribble out the branding and don said jerseys when the weather is tough. Try either the long or short sleeve Gabba or Fawesome Vest. If you are looking for a more economical option the Nanoflex warmers have the same water repellent fabric - simply pair them up with an existing waterproof gilet.

Castelli Wet Weather Jersey

One to carry at all times, whatever the distance - the Castelli Velo Jacket. It packs up very neatly into a little pouch hidden behind the shoulders and when the heavens open (something never to be discounted in the UK) it will keep you dry and comfortable - don’t ride the remaining 80 miles having been drenched early on.

Enjoy the ride!
