![]() The cornerstone of Vermont based Ibex’s bike collection is their passion for Merino Wool. Whether you ride road, hit the trails or commute by bike, Ibex clothing is a revelation. Breathable, soft, anti bacterial & highly comfortable: you can simply enjoy the ride & forget about what you’re wearing. From their ultra fine baselayers, through to their mid weight cycling jerseys, Ibex is a brand for all seasons.
Some review products we grow to like over time. Some we grow to hate. And some, like the Ibex El Fito Wool Knicker ($120), we absolutely love from the very first pedal stroke. The Merino wool El Fito is a great three-quarter biking pant for chilly spring and fall days, and milder days in the dead of winter. Unlike some road pants that aren't tough enough for the trail, and some mountain bike bottoms that are too bulky for the road, the El Fito is a great choice no matter what kind of bike you're riding. The chamois seems to have been changed since the last version (somewhat less padded), but these have proved to be nearly as comfy as the last pair and certainly as warm. The mix of merino for the bulk of the knicks, with synthetic material over the knees for windproofing is effective. Compared to lycra, merino is quite thick material, but obviously warmer and much better when wet. Quality, as with other Ibex stuff, is top notch.

These ridrers fit really well and are comfortable. The quality of these 3/4 is great and they are really warm without feeling hot. They wash really well too.

I'd strongly recommend these - they do everything they claim to and more. Just did a 60-mile ride for first time in 20 years; no chafing, no 'numb bum'; cosy at early start, no sweat in lunchtime sun. Plus, when I managed to fall off (embarrassment!) my nice new shorts didn't tear, and my legs weren't grazed either. Size is as advertised. They are worth every penny.

I'd like to add to my earlier review. I now have warn these most days on a 940 mile 16 day bike ride. Had lots of head winds, lots of rain, some sunshine and even some hail and these were fantastic in all those conditions. I'm about to buy another pair.

great fit and very comfortable particularly the back of the knees!!! (never been aware of a problem there before but these are just so comfortable there). the extra fabric also keeps my knees and lower quads warm on cold days. The bottoms are quite wide so great f you've got big calf muscles or just don't like the feel of that tight grip on your lower legs of many knicks.
Slight query about pad on longer rides but I may need a new saddle so not a fair test.

These pants are comfortable and fit very well (true to size). The wool is soft and feels nice on the skin. The cycling pad is ideal, and doesn't bunch up when riding, like some other brands. I wish Ibex made them in a long version as well.
by Rachel Griffith from United Kingdom on 28/05/2010
I found these very comfortable for spring riding (anything from 5C-20C). The softshell knee front sits very compfortable. The pad is good enough for rides of up to 5-6 hours. hi - on the sizing of these, is a medium similar to say a pearl izumi or endura medium? many thanks, tay

Thanks for the question - We don't have experience with those two products, but a medium in the El Fito for Women is the rough equivalent of a 10 - 12 UK size - hope that helps!
