If there is one piece that captures the spirit of city cycling, it is the Muxu Shirt, which has been designed without compromise for urban riders worldwide.
Constructed from a cotton elastane blend that moves with the body, the Muxu Shirt is not only breathable, but highly comfortable against the skin. In order to create a totally unrestricted on the bike movement, the shoulders are detailed with relief areas to supplement the stretch in the fabric. The combination of both stretch fabric and shoulder relief makes riding a joy, and really helps the rider maintain control when the speed picks up. Moving to the sides, and to help maintain shape and keep the structure of the shirt we have incorporated side panels to create a fitted, contemporary look. Throughout the Muxu Shirt, critical seams are flat locked, whilst the shoulder seams are positioned lower for bag carrying comfort. After hours of testing, the only rear pocket that seemed to work for nearly all riders was a side opening, zipped pocket positioned on the right hand side. This sits within easy reach of the rider's hands, and can be opened easily on and off the bike. Inside, there is enough room for a phone, cards, cash or mp3 player, and taking this into account, there is also an internal headphone wire hole. The back is completed by a dropped rear that protects your modesty on the bike, whilst at the front, two useful chest pockets sit astride the hidden button closure, which is designed to protect the buttons from the rough pull of a messenger bag. Designed in Barcelona, made in Portugal, and in two attractive colours, the Muxu Shirt is available to buy today.
![]() Muxu (pronounced 'Moo Shoe') make clothing designed for urban cyclists, born from a love of the bike and the needs of the rider. Taking the cyclist seamlessly through the day, Muxu apparel blurs the boundary between what you wear on and off the bike. From a light commute, a game of bike polo, to 100 kilometre messenger days, your Muxu is designed to look and feel amazing, whilst functioning without compromise. Designed in Barcelona, and made in Portugal, for a ride that is as unforgettable as the city.
Barcelona's Muxu offers a range of urban messenger-inspired clothing. The Ride Shirt is close fit, and the stretchy elastane and soft cotton construction combined with pleated shoulders offers supreme comfort on and off the bike. Flatlocked seams and covered buttons are practical features intended to mitigate the effects of a courier bag or backpack, while a dropped rear provides excellent on-bike fit. Two chest pockets are supplemented by a side-opening zip rear pocket, perfect for valuables, with internal headphone routing. Verdict ![]() Although it doesn’t look cycle-specific to the untrained eye, the Ride shirt is a good choice for scooting around city streets in summer. It’s cut close to the body so it doesn’t wave about uncontrollably as soon as you hit 10mph, and it doesn’t feel too tight either thanks to a little stretchy elastane in the fabric and an unobtrusive pleat behind each shoulder. These folds actually work really well to give you a bit of extra comfort when you’re stretched out to the bars.
The rear is extended slightly to keep your lower back covered – and that certainly doesn’t look out of place on a collared shirt – while the seams are positioned away from the top of your shoulders so there’s no uncomfortable pressure point up there if you use a courier bag, for example. You get a pocket hidden in the seam on either side of the chest and another zipped one around the back – again disguised in a seam – that comes complete with a hole for plumbing your ipod lead internally. It’ll hold your keys, cash, mobile and other essential gubbins easily enough.
This isn’t a shirt you want to pedal too hard in, though. Apart from the elastane (4%), the fabric is cotton, and although that feels great next to your skin when you’re off the bike or just cruising about slowly, work up any sort of a sweat and it gets damp and doesn’t dry very quickly. Plus, in the blue (shown) and stone (browny grey) colour options, it shows. Dark patches really aren’t a good look.
So, this is a good shirt for its intended purpose – which is riding around town at a sedate pace, maybe to work or to get a coffee, and then wearing for the rest of the day when you’re off the bike too. But anything more strenuous than that and the lack of a technical fabric will leave you uncomfortable. For that reason, it lacks the versatility of Muxu's Ride Stripe Polo Shirt.
Verdict
Some useful bike-specific features but the lack of a technical fabric limits its versatility - 7/10

It's not cheap but then turning me into a classy guy isn't easy. Well made, good fit (assuming you have a half decent cycling physique) and practical. Well worth it!

Purchased this shirt after winning a £100 voucher in the latest Always Riding comp....result!! Normally wouldn't pay so much for such an item, but really please when it arrived. Haven't worn it in anger yet but the fit out of the packet was excellent. I am normally a medium but as recommended by other reviewers I took a size up and it fits like a glove. A part of me thinks it's far too nice to go cycling in but will probably try it on a trip down to the pub at the weekend. Just need to save up now to get the 3/4 length strides, or alternatively win another competition.....fat chance ;-)

I bought this shirt in medium, but had to swap it for a large as it is a little fitted. However, it fits great, and i've been wearing it for the past month about 3 times a week. I'm really impressed with the quality, it's finished so well. Highly recommended.

Bought it for my man-friend birthday and he loves it! He looks great on it in the morning when he goes to work and as good if we meet up at the end of the day for dinner in a restaurant. He is very pleased as well as he doesn't need to wear a big back-pack to work anymore with clothes to change. Just gave a 4 star rating and not a 5 because I feel jealous that I can't buy one for myself... It is a really masculine shirt!
Also, thanks to the guys at AR, they were really helpful with sizing advice.

This is a seriously impressive shirt. I have been wearing it for the past 2 weeks to work, wearing it all day, then riding home. From a work perspective, this means I don't have to change (as long as I don't pedal too hard), and on the bike, the fit and feel is brilliant. I love the shoulder detailing that improves the reach to the bars, but most impressive is just the quality. No doubt, it is the best shirt I own, on or off the bike. Brilliant, and I look forward to more from Muxu this year.

I bought this shirt on Friday afternoon and it arrived Saturday morning with standard delivery. I wasn't expecting to wear it for the weekend, but it was a bonus.
Ok, so the shirt. I had no idea what to expect, never having worn a 'cycling' specific shirt before. I have to tell you though that I am blown away. Not only is this the comfiest shirt I own, but you can clearly see the thought that has gone into it. The arm relief works great, the zipped rear pocket was ideal for my phone, and the fit itself was like it had been tailored for me. If I was looking for a downside I would say that it is quite expensive. However, if I think that i've now got a cycling specific shirt that works on and off the bike (luckily for my work I can wear this and I don't have to wear a suit or anything), and take into account the quality of the finish, plus the made in portugal tag, for me this isn't a problem.
Well done Always Riding for bringing this to the site, and well done Muxu! Next on my list, the 3/4 shorts... Got an in depth product question, or want to ask something else related to this product? Whatever your question, simple post it here, and we'll answer you faster than a speeding bullet.
Hi, i'm a 38" chest with a 32" waist - am I a medium?
posted by Rob on 14th November 2010
Thanks for the question - yes, I would say you are a medium, and this will give a very good fit. However, if you prefer a little more room in a shirt or a more relaxed look, then go for a large.
