Quoc Pham Fixed Shoe - Tan

$160.55
Leather has been used to take advantage of its many natural qualities. It breathes, neutralises odours, softens and moulds to fit. It is warm and wind resistant in cold weather yet breathes to be cool and absorbent in summer. The shoe should feel a little tight width-wise, but rest assured that after a couple of hours of wear, the leather will give in the right places to ensure the perfect fit. ![]() Quoc Pham has always had a passion for both fashion design and sport. After graduating with a BA (Hons) in fashion from London's Central St. Martins, he decided to merge the two. In 2009, Quoc designed his first smart bicycle shoe, combining fashion with an active lifestyle - the eponymous brand was born. Sleek and elegant, Quoc Pham shoes are made for the urban enthusiast and weekend tourist, hopping on and off, in and out of places. They feel like bicycle shoes but don't necessarily look like them: no chunky soles, no Velcro straps, no inability to walk in them, no extra bright colour combinations. They are perfect to wear at dinner or in the office, yet comfortable as a sports shoe should be.
Each limited edition pair is made using traditional techniques, with craftsman sculpting by hand to ensure they stay true to the contour of the foot. Initial prototypes are made and tested rigorously and once approved, only then can the leather be carefully selected. This must be a 1.3-1.4mm thickness due to the quality and durability required. Additionally, the shoes have to be perfect both for walking and riding, so achieving the right consistency for the rubber sole and correct foot bed curvature was a challenge. In essence, everything is considered, even a lesson on how to lace and knot for the best hold on your feet!
![]() Vintage cycling shoes are getting harder to find nowadays, so it is pleasing to see a new company turning out smart, Sunday best, footwear for you to slip into your toe clips. Quoc Phan is a young St. Martins fashion graduate who loves cycling and spotted a niche in the market for traditional cycling shoes for the urban enthusiast and weekend tourist, something that would decorate your feet and go terribly well with your Rapha trousers. No chunky soles, no Velcro straps, no hobbling when walking in them, no extra bright colour combinations, just the understated elegance of a functional riding shoe. Each numbered, limited edition pair is made using traditional techniques, (unfortunately not in this country but that would make the price way too high) with craftsman sculpting the materials by hand to ensure they stay true to the contour of the foot. These shoes are designed to be used with toe clips, with a sleek, slightly pointed toe, making it very easy to enter your pedal traps. They are a very snug fit, a bit like putting a climbing shoe on, with the 1.4mm thick, supple, leather designed to stretch around your feet, more like a leather sock than a shoe!
Once on, there isn't any room for your toes to wriggle and keep warm in wintery climes. It does take several hours for the leather to mould to the shape of your foot but once they are broken in, they literally fit like your favourite slippers. The contoured stiff rubber sole allows power to be put down into the pedals yet is compliant enough, and has the correct foot bed curvature, to walk normally in. They aren't so grippy on flat pedals and forget riding them in the wet without clips unless you have a lot of stand over height or a disregard for your family jewels! Quoc is working on a design with recessed cleats too which should be very interesting.
Keep them polished and the Fixed shoes should look good for all those Sunday pub rides or short commutes to work where there are no changing facilities or when you go straight into a meeting. They do look a little bit dainty to be worn with a suit though.
Verdict
A smart pair of quality, sleek, leather shoes that will work well in any toe clip yet allow you to walk without looking like you have bunions - 8/10 If you have bought this product, why not write a review and help other riders to make an informed choice. Just click here.

However I did experience problems with my feet slipping off my open pedals which to be honest is not good.
All looks and no real practical use for bike riding in my personal experience anyway.
Now the tourer with the cleats now thats a totally different ride and 10/10 for those which I also own in black.
These shoes whilst they look fantastic should have different soles to them to stop the slipping and with wet roads just wear something else

I now have a black pair and a tan pair - they've seriously improved my commute and I've yet to find something that can stand up to relatively tough riding while also looking perfectly smart for work. Do size them carefully though: I take a 45 in every other shoe, but a 46 is a nice snug fit in these.

Supple leather, lovely classy colour, extremely lightweight. It's taking some time to break in for walking but stiffness is just right when pedaling. Pay careful attention to size chart as the fit is quite tight!

Very easy on the eye, plenty stiff enough when used with toe-clips, nice reflective rear trim. Fine straight from the box for cycling - but took a little breaking in when walking. Hi. Any idea when you might have the black version of this back in stock?
