Rouleur [Ruloer] n.m Fr.- a cyclist who 'rolls' easily, a rider for the flatter races and often the team's captain.
Rouleur is a bi-monthly magazine published by Rapha Racing that showcases the beauty and drama of the world's greatest sport. From issue one, their ambition has been to provide a deeper insight into road cycle racing and their approach to documenting the sport is unlike any other publication on the newstand. Rouleur is now an award-winning magazine, receiving acclaim from reviewers and readers alike, because it portrays the sport in ways that have never been attempted before. Unflinching and unique, Rouleur consistently uses the best writers and photographers in the business and the results are presented in a magazine of unparalleled quality. Contributors include The Guardian writers William Fotheringham and Matt Seaton, as well as Graeme Fife and former Clash road manager Johnny Green. Among the photographers are John Vink and Guy le Querrec.
Rouleur Ltd have also begun to publish books in addition to the magazine, of which the excellent
Le Metier by Michael Barry and Camille McMillan is the first to see the light of day.
Pretentious. Expensive. Poncy. The Rapha of bike magazines. If you’re a negative, run-of-the-mill, “any old bike mag’ll do” kind of person at least...
I’m a bike tart. Rouleur is bike art. Anyone who claims to be passionate about cycling (ok, maybe I should just pigeon-hole the roadies for this one - I reckon a lot of MTBers would hate it!) should read Rouleur, and frankly if you claim to be passionate and aren’t already reading it I might even question how you’ve avoided it thus far.
Not swamped with articles, reviews and advertising - just full of really interesting and very well written ‘pieces’ about events, people and companies at the heart of this wonderful hobby and sport. Oh, and the photography? Wow.
Expensive? Maybe a little, but the quality more than makes up for it. Worth a read? Definitely. And I can’t wait to get stuck in to my latest subs copy which plopped onto the doormat yesterday - thankfully without damage to it’s ‘coffee table read’ appearance.
Go on, treat yourself...
