Description

Description

A brand new addition to the Chrome Bags line, the Barrage Cargo Bag is a fully waterproof seam-welded backpack, manufactured with an internal welded-waterproof floating bucket designed to keep your stuff bone-dry, paired to an abrasion resistant Cordura outer shell. The result - an immensely tough waterproof rolltop backpack.

A low-profile design aided by side compression straps and an external cargo net for carrying gear on the outside, the Barrage Cargo offers 22-34 litres of volume adaptive space and a dedicated interior area for up to a 15" MacBook Pro (laptop sleeve recommended). Fabricated with military grade materials, and trimmed with Chrome classics like the sternum strap finished with the iconic mini seatbelt buckle, the Barrage is a fine bag for city and travel exploits.

I am really pleased with this bag - ideal for a weekend away or as a day bag that requires that little extra storage. Robust. Waterproof. Spacious. COMFORTABLE.

And then there's the cargo net, which is ideal for transporting a helmet or a huge bowl of carbohydrates!

This backpack will probably outlast me. It's rock solid, made of truck tarp so no water is getting in. The design is great - the outside pocket is easily deep enough for phone, keys, wallet, tools, food etc. The reflective strips (I'm talking about the black version) provide extra visibility for a fairly low-key pack. Water bottle holders are great - they don't fit a Nalgene but other taller / less wide 1L bottles are fine. The inside laptop compartment fits a Surface Book snugly - with a case it might be a struggle.

Downsides - this bag is heavy. It's 1.4kg empty - chuck in a laptop, shoes, food and water and it's not light. But, it is completely waterproof and on / off the bike it's comfy and sits well on my back (5'8). It could do with a pocket on the inside for storage of bits and bobs. Lots of straps to dangle about. The rolltop will struggle to 'roll' if there is a lot in the bag - downside of the tarp & thick nylon.

Overall great bag and would thoroughly recommend.

My first chrome rucksack, really impressed with it. Need to get over the one big pocket kind of style, though I'm used to that with panniers so just go for a bags within bag packing style. Haven't tested in the rain but no doubts it is waterproof. Feels good on the back and has a nice style to it. Not out there cool but an appreciation for a well made, reliable rucksack. Cargo net is useful. Only con is that the side pockets are slightly slim. Workarounds possible though.

I got this bag as a replacement for a Chrome Pawn (that bag is still going strong but has a tendency to bulge and isn't great for a laptop). Overall it's great!

    Pros:

    - The rectangular shape is great for commuter shaped objects, I use it to carry: laptop / books / keyboard / laptop stand / drinks bottle.
    - Sturdy build (doesn't feel as good as the Pawn, but I've yet to have any problems with it, and it's way tougher than any other bags I own)
    - Waterproof: peace of mind when you're caught in heavy rain with your laptop.
    - Outer drinks bottle holder. Really missed having one of these on the Pawn, I don't like having a potential leaky object in with my electronics, plus this is easier to grab. Someone mention that the stap is in an awkward place, I actually use it to secure my water bottle. There are two so I use the other side for bike lights and multitool.
    - Cargo net is super handy, so this bag is smaller than the pawn, but it has a cargo net, which can carry all sorts of awkward stuff. I usually use it to hold a rain jacket, but have also used it to carry an oversized parcel.
    - Narrow (compared to my Pawn), doesn't suffer from the roll-top issue of blocking the view over your shoulder due to the way it folds before rolling.

    Cons:
    - Main gripe: It's a little long on my back. I'm 5'8", so I guess that's on the short side. Because of the webbing between the straps I can't get it to sit neatly on the small of my back even when it's right up high. I feel like if they made this bag a tiny bit shorter it could accommodate shorter people, without upsetting the fit for taller people (who could just leave the straps a little lower)
    - Roll top: The lip is a little short for a rolltop, and tends to unroll unless the bag is really loaded. It's more like a fold over, still seems waterproof though.

I've been using this backpack every day on my commute for the last couple of days. It has handled everything I've thrown at it. Sits great on my back both on and off the bike.

Pockets are huge and things can get a bit messy in it. Even the smaller pockets are big. If you don't mind having one giant main compartment for most of your stuff, this is a great bag.
