The MaXx-D from Exposure is a popular option for night riding, providing a very respectable 2,350 lumens of brightness, which boosts up to a whopping 3,200 lumens when required. Smaller and less powerful than the top of the range Six Pack, the total lumens on offer is lower (2,350/3,200 as opposed to 3,400/4,500) but otherwise the MaXx-D is pretty much the same as the Six Pack.
As well as offering high power in a lightweight cable free package, Exposure lights are popular with riders because of their high end build quality, reliability and neat design features. For the Six Pack and MaXx-D, foremost in terms of features is the Reflex Plus Technology, which adapts the brightness of the light to the type of riding you are doing. This means less illumination when climbing and more when descending, optimising the use of power across the course of the ride. The MaXx-D also has several other modes so you can choose the best option for your needs for times when you don’t want to use the Reflex Plus mode.
Other useful features include the OLED Status Display and Fuel Gauge Indicator which together provide information on battery life, burn time, program and mode selected, and an Optimum Mode Selector for easy operation of the light. The light fits to the handlebars via a sturdy aluminium bracket and the light can be easily removed for charging when required. At full power the light will last for 2 hours but can last for up to 36 hours on a single charge when using less power hungry mode settings. The MaXx-D charges via USB and a fast charger is also included.
