The Trace and TraceR light set from Exposure is ideal if you are looking for a high quality, durable, minimal fuss set of lights for urban riding. Exposure is a UK based company which manufactures lights using top quality materials and construction techniques. In the early days their focus was purely on high powered front lights for night mountain bike riding; more recently they have branched out into making lights for urban and road riding, using the technologies developed for their MTB lights.
This means that urban and road riders benefit from the experience Exposure have of ensuring lights function well and are easy to use in demanding circumstances. Unlike most other lights designed for urban riding, the Trace and TraceR are made from CNC machined aluminium - this feels a lot more robust and up to the daily demands of commuting than plastic alternatives. The lights also have technology built into the circuitry which ensures that they will not overheat - although this is less critical for lower powered urban lights compared to high powered mountain bike lights, it ensures the lights will operate at their optimum.
The Trace and TraceR are designed to be easy to use, with a quick release fitting bracket, single button operation, micro USB charging and ‘Fuel Gauge’ indicator which shows how much battery and burn time you have left. Both lights have a choice of constant and pulsing beams with lenses designed to provide good side illumination. A ‘DayBright’ mode is designed for enhanced visibility in daylight conditions, with a pulsing beam which is visible from over 1km away even in bright sunlight.
The lights will last for between 3 and 24 hours per charge depending on the mode used. They also look really nice, and are really small and light - a winning option in our opinion!
