The best kind of kit works so well at its intended purpose that you don’t really notice it when you’re riding, enabling you to up your game and really focus in on the trail ahead, whether you’re tackling root-strewn descents, rocky climbs or sandy plains. With their lightweight construction, customisable fit and stiff but grippy sole, we would put the Giro Empire VR90s firmly in this category.
The fit of the Giro Empire VR90 women’s mountain bike shoes is really adjustable and doesn’t shift once you’ve got it right thanks to the hold tight laces and the breathable upper material, which won’t give over time, so you can be sure of a secure, comfortable fit. Because the sole is constructed from both carbon and Vibram rubber, it effectively transfers power to the pedals on the bike but also offers all important grip for any off-bike movement.
The Empire VR90s have a whole load of other helpful features such as a mid-foot scuff guard, antimicrobial footbed and separate steel toe spikes which can be added for additional off-bike control in sludgy conditions if desired. They also come in a shiny ‘Cadbury purple’ colourway which we think looks super tasty (a more neutral black option is also available for riders looking for a more subtle look).
