Although only a few years old, RedWhite are well known among riders in the know for their high quality long distance bib shorts. RedWhite’s mantra is that a rider should be able to ride until their legs give up, not their bum! To make this noble aim a reality, the company developed a custom multilayer heat-fused foam chamois which is as high tech as you would imagine it would be given that the firm was started by an ex-Dyson engineer.
The company has now developed a female-specific bib short option, great news for members of the fairer sex who like to push the milometer into triple figures. The short was a year in the making and was designed with the aim of retaining all the technical features of the men’s version but on a short which is completely tailored to female riders.
At the heart of the short is a custom female-specific chamois. The chamois uses an anatomical design which combines a mid layer of thick, firm foam with an upper layer of softer foam. The denser foam provides a high level of support and protection which does not decline over the course of a ride (this is in contrast to the softer foam found in many other bib short chamois designs which compresses over time leading to a reduced level of protection). The upper layer of medium density foam provides a plush feeling and provides additional protection from road noise. The chamois is then finished with a premium antibacterial outer fabric for good against-skin comfort, and a perforated lycra backing which provides excellent breathability and enables the chamois to move with your body independent of the rest of the short.
In addition to its unique high end chamois, the rest of the short is tailored towards supreme comfort over long distances. Wide lycra leg bands with silicone dots grip without excessively compressing, and wide mesh straps prevent any pressure points up top. A high cut front panel feels secure but also expands easily, and a large lycra back panel provides maximum cooling and breathability. Zero inner thigh seams and longer ‘pro-length’ inseams provide protection and ensure no chafing in this area.
