The Tredici is Silca’s take on the Swiss Army Knife, but for cyclists. Dubbed the ‘Italian Army Knife’ in honour of Silca’s Italian heritage, the Tredici contains 13 tools for at home or on the road repairs and adjustments. This includes hex keys from 2mm through to 8mm (including 2.5mm), the three most common torx bit sizes, a Phillips head and flat head screwdriver and a disc pad spreader. The Tredici also has magnets built into the side plates which will hold half of a spare chain link each (see the product image to see just how this clever design feature works).
As you would expect from Silca, the tool is carefully designed and pristinely executed. Tool bits are medium in length, fully able to access recessed bolts without being so long that they might twist under moderate torque. This medium length also allows the bits from each side of the tool to fold within the same plane, halving the thickness of the tool to a nice, slim package. High quality corrosion resistant metals are used to provide strength and durability without weight sacrifices, this includes forged double chromed tools, stainless steel hardware and forged aluminium side plates.
The Tredici is not the cheapest multi tool out there, but we do think it is one of the nicest looking and feeling tools out there, and is sure to last a lot longer than much of the competition thanks to its high quality design and construction - we actually think Silca could have put a much higher price tag on a piece this nice, but we are very happy that they have not done so!
If you like the look of the Tredici but think you might want something a bit smaller, the Silca Nove could be a good one to go for!
